The Times (UK) has written that violinist Alina Ibragimova performs with “a mixture of total abandonment and total control that is in no way contradictory” and that she is “destined to be a force in the classical music firmament for decades to come”.
Performing music from baroque to new commissions on both modern and period instruments, Alina Ibragimova has appeared with orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony, the Hallé, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Philharmonia, and all the BBC orchestras.
Conductors with whom Ibragimova has worked include Sir Charles Mackerras, Valery Gergiev, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Mark Elder, Paavo Järvi, Vladimir Jurowski, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Philippe Herreweghe, Richard Hickox, Osmo Vänskä, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Tugan Sokhiev, Edward Gardner and Gianandrea Noseda.
As soloist/director Ibragimova has toured with the Kremerata Baltica, Britten Sinfonia, Academy of Ancient Music, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
In solo recitals, chamber music concerts, and with regular recital partner, pianist Cédric Tiberghien, Alina Ibragimova has appeared at venues including Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, the Mozarteum, the Musikverein, Carnegie Hall, Palais des Beaux Arts, for the Vancouver Recital Series, and at festivals including Salzburg, Verbier, MDR Musiksommer, Manchester International, Lockenhaus and Aldeburgh.
This season, in North America, Ibragimova appears with Thierry Fischer and the Utah Symphony, playing Prokovief Concerto No. 1, and returns to the Seattle Symphony for the Beethoven Violin Concerto with Jakob Hrusa. She plays recital dates with Cédric Tiberghien at Shriver Hall and in New York City at Lincoln Center.
Past North American performances include solo recitals for San Francisco Performances and Middlebury College, the Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto No. 3 with Jun Märkl and the Indianapolis Symphony and the Mozart Violin Concerto No. 3 with Christian Knapp and the Seattle Symphony. Ibragimova made her New York City recital debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, with Cédric Tiberghien.
Born in Russia in 1985, Ibragimova studied at the Moscow Gnesin School before moving with her family to the UK in 1995 where she studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and Royal College of Music, and was a member of the Kronberg Academy Masters programme. Ibragimova’s teachers have included Natasha Boyarsky, Gordan Nikolitch and Christian Tetzlaff.
On the Hyperion label, Ibragimova has recorded the complete Bach Sonatas and Partitas, concertos by Hartmann and Roslavets, and Ravel and Szymanowski works for piano and violin with Cédric Tiberghien, with whom she also recorded an acclaimed traversal of the Beethoven Violin Sonatas on the Wigmore Hall Live label. Her latest release is an October 2012 disc featuring Mendelssohn’s Violin Concertos (both the E Minor and the early D Minor), with Vladimir Jurowski and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
Alina Ibragimova has been the recipient of awards including the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award 2010, Borletti-Buitoni Trust and a Classical BRIT, and was a member of the BBC New Generation Artists Scheme 2005-7. She performs on a c.1775 Anselmo Bellosio violin kindly provided by Georg von Opel.
